Mom Hacks – Sharing the Load

Sometimes moms try to do it all, and get it all done — an observation never more apparent than at the holidays.

There seems to be this belief that we’re “less-than” if we cannot effortlessly enjoy a successful work life, run a happy, active home, manage the family’s social and extra-curricular calendars, get the cleaning and shopping done, and find time to work out!

To be perfectly honest, I have never been able to get it all done, not without something significant falling through the cracks: an important engagement, a bill, the housecleaning, or my sanity!

Rather than try to get it all done, I’ve decided that I will do my best, but that I will ask for help and share the load when it becomes too much. When people ask how they can help me before a dinner party, rather than insisting there’s “nothing to do”, and “it’s all under control”, I’m going to be honest, and tell them exactly how they can help me. And with those closest to me, I’m going to ask!

Because we all deserve a latte, a bath, and to relax every once in a while.
