I appreciate this post, and your honesty! I have a love/hate relationship with blogging conferences. I can't deny that I've learned TONS of valuable information at conferences, and made some vital connections in terms of future success for my blog. But...sometimes it feels like such an echo chamber, so much "preaching to the choir," if that makes any sense. A gentleman I sat next to on the flight to Type A Mom last month put it all into perspective for me when he basically chuckled and shook his head when I told him where I was headed to and why. It reminded me that to most of the world, blogging (and blogging conferences) still doesn't really mean squat. :)

i took appreciate your candor. i am not a blogger that attends the conferences, mainly because i just can't afford it. i get very tired and a little annoyed at the reams and reams of posts and tweets about those going to conferences. i feel like it's a "rubbing it in" sort of thing. i can't say that i am not jealous of the fabulous swag they will get either. sometimes i feel that's its unfair but i am also not looking to make my blog into a business so i should really stop with the pity party.

I have been to two blogger conferences Type A and BlogHer10. I had two completely different experiences. Type A I went to because I had not idea about any of the other conferences and really got a lot out of it because I was clueless and a sponge looking for informatoin. I guess I had no idea who these people were to be intimidate. I mean I heard about Pioneer Woman for the first time last year and I was in marketing for god sakes.

This year I went to BlogHer because it was in NYC, where I sat in in sessions with bloggers who obviously have tons of fans. What a difference blogging for year does for you. I agree that you get what you put into it. But given the cost of traveling, paying for babysitters, etc, I think smaller events are better for me and going to one per year is enough for me.

I've been reading through this blog (how did I not know of this) and I think I might just adore you. Thanks for writing this. I've felt like the kid in the corner for the past year because I couldn't go to any conferences (those things are EXPENSIVE) and it's nice to hear a real perspective on the thing - Rather than a brag about going.
