Samsung recently introduced a new smart watch – the Samsung Gear Fit 2 – that combines the functionality of staying connected to important calls and messages with the ultimate fitness tracker.

The Gear Fit2 offers truly advanced features to better help us understand our fitness goals. I tracked my fitness using another brand in the past and found so many discrepancies with my workouts. For example, a low impact elliptical workout would register thousands and thousands of steps, where a high impact Pilates or yoga class would barely register at all.gear-fit2_sleek_l

The Gear Fit2 allows the wearer to select which activity they take part in, ranging from walking, hiking, cycling, step machine, exercise bike, elliptical trainer, crunches, yoga, and MORE, to provide an accurate read on the intensity of your workout!

For standard workouts such as elliptical, walking, and hiking, the watch actually will automatically detect and adjust to what you do. It will also share updates throughout the workout notifying you of your progress, encouraging you along. On the elliptical trainer, a notification popped up about every five minutes encouraging me to keep up the pace! When I walk at a brisk pace in the morning to work, the Gear Fit2 registers my exercise and even gives me a quick read on my heart rate.

It also can track which days you took in the most stair flights, steps, and more, to give you a great read on your week’s activity.

For those like me who may love the variety of having a few different watches or watch faces, you’ll love the fact that you can customize the screen of the Gear Fit2, choosing from a wide variety of pre-loaded designs. You even have the option to purchase a design from the Play store that corresponds with your favorite movie or sports team. The screen options don’t make me miss wearing traditional watches. I also love how secure this band fits on my wrist. The GearFit2 is available in Small and Large sizes to better fit all consumers, and has a loop to thread the band through like a traditional watch so it won’t just pop off your hand during a rigorous workout.

The Gear Fit2connects via Bluetooth to your smartphone. You can select which notifications you want to receive on your watch. For GearFit2 I added Snapchat and Gmail. I was very impressed with the screen quality for receiving messages on the Gear Fit2. Even images from text messages showed up quite fully and clearly on the Super AMOLED screen. It provides the ability to respond via a series of pre-scripted responses to texts directly from your phone, including standards such as “Thank You” “No” and even some emoticons.

Since starting to wear the Gear Fit2, I avoided missing several important calls that I would not otherwise have seen since my phone was in my bag or across the room.

There are a few other helpful features on the device, such as a “Find My Phone” that sets off your phone’s alarm if you can’t remember where you put it. You also can use it to connect with S Health and track your water and caffeine intake.

The Gear Fit2 retails for about $179, a value-driven pricepoint given all of the functionality it offers the wearer!
