Disclosure: We received the Hello, Dolly! recording to facilitate our post. All opinions are our own.
Broadway is buzzing about the highly acclaimed revival of Michael Stewart and Jerry Herman’s masterpiece Hello, Dolly!
Hello, Dolly! instantly became the hottest ticket of the year when it broke the record for best first day of ticket sales in Broadway history, due to the love and affinity theater goers have for this classic musical and the excitement regarding its leading lady, Bette Midler, who plays the role of Dolly Levi.
Bette Midler is joined by Tony Award® and four-time Emmy Award® winner David Hyde Pierce (Horace Vandergelder) two-time Tony Award® nominee Gavin Creel (Cornelius Hackl), Tony Award® nominee Kate Baldwin (Irene Molloy), Taylor Trensch (Barnaby Tucker), Beanie Feldstein (Minnie Fay), Will Burton (Ambrose Kemper), Melanie Moore (Ermengarde), Tony Award® nominee Jennifer Simard (Ernestina), and an ensemble of twenty-eight.
I had the pleasure of seeing Hello, Dolly! on Broadway (having the foresight to purchase my tickets about six months in advance!!) and it was nothing short of wonderful. The show itself is so charming and creative, and brings you back to a time long ago when exciting train rides, hat shops, and grandiose dining were part of New York society. You can’t help but smile when you listen to this music.
I love that I can recreate the joy of seeing the show live every time I listen to the cast album, available on Masterworks Broadway – a label of Sony Music Masterworks.
The Tony Awards® are airing on June 11. Be sure to tune in and root for Hello, Dolly! as the show is up for 10 awards!
