A few weeks ago my husband and I took our two-year-old daughter to her first concert – Yo Gabba Gabba! Live. For those of you without a toddler – you may be asking – “Yo Gabba what?” Think Sesame Street meets Teletubbies with a twist of hip hop funk for a modern and cool feel (and to also help keep the parent’s attention!). The show’s the latest rage on Nick, Jr. and takes the excitement on the road this fall by visiting over 60 cities nationwide.
Taking our daughter to her first concert proved to be a big deal. I needed to have her on her “A” game as a loud, noisy, crowded arena could be disastrous without the proper rest. Back in the day, my friends and I went to our favorite concerts early, so we’d have plenty of time for hanging out and mingling before the show. This time around, we made sure to leave the house in plenty of time, but only to ensure our toddler would take a power nap in the car to be happy and ready for the big show!
Being huge fans of Yo Gabba Gabba! and all their catchy songs, I got that same excited feeling right before the show I used to get before seeing my favorite band or artist in concert. I actually got teary eyed from the swell of excitement when I saw DJ Lance and the crew hit the stage – just like I did the first time I saw U2 in concert. (Yes, I’m that pathetic!). Plus, to see the awe in my daughter’s eyes was priceless as she waved and yelled at the stage in hopes that her favorite characters Foofa or Brobee would wave back.
We all loved the concert – even my husband who normally does not get easily excited with these types of things. I actually caught him clapping and singing along a few times! The Yo Gabba Gabba! gang sang all their classic songs and had fun surprises like bubbles, balloons and confetti falling from the ceiling. The characters ran up and down the aisles to let their fans shake their hands and hug them – and they encouraged everyone to get up and dance for the fast songs. It felt so good to get lost in the pure excitement of it all and I danced like no one was watching. Something I wouldn’t normally do at a concert!
As an added bonus, Revolution Foods/Plum Organics – the makers of organic snacks and meals for kids and babies – gave out complimentary samples before and after the shows. My daughter gulped down their yummy fruit puree snack -and that’s not just because she was so hungry from all that dancing! It felt good to have her eat a healthy snack at the show, instead of the typical popcorn and cotton candy.
And, because they know not everyone can go to a Yo Gabba Gabba! Live show, Revolution Foods/Plum Organics created a cool and interactive microsite as a way to follow along with their Brand Reps on tour with the show. Think of it as your personal back-stage access pass to the concert, with the chance to win fun weekly prizes as well!
