After a brief hiatus, which included sending my eldest off to college at Emory University, TechDad Central is back with a host of product reviews.

Let's start off with something very unique – the Eye-Fi wireless photo memory card. Pay attention because this doesn't sound rational — insert the Eye-Fi card into your digital camera and you now have a wireless camera that will upload your pictures automatically. That's right, this memory card contains a full-featured WiFi radio and software that manages automatic uploads.

If you follow TechDad Central, you know how much I hate cables so the Eye-Fi looked like a panacea to my digital camera cable woes. Out of the box, you plug the Eye-Fi card, via the included adapter, into the USB port on your computer. All of the needed software is on the card. You then configure the card to communicate with any WiFI network within range – including any required network key. Even better, you can enable it to work with any AT&T hostpsot access point via an included one-year subscription. That means that whenever my camera is turned on and in range of a Starbucks, Barnes & Noble or most hotels, my camera is automatically uploading the newly taken photos.

Once uploaded, my photos are automatically routed to the photo site of my choice (I have mine going to Shutterfly) as well as to my laptop. The next time I log in to Shutterfly, my photos were waiting for me and when I came home and turned on my laptop, the photos downloaded to iPhoto.

Although I've yet to test out how much the Eye-Fi affects the battery performance of my camera, I've become a fanboy. No cables = TechDad Central happiness.
