When my son Gavin turned six months old a few weeks ago, I quickly noticed a change in him. Busy, busy, busy best sums it up! From pulling, clawing and chewing anything he can get his hands on (including me!) or rolling and reaching on the floor desperately trying to figure out how to crawl, it is purely awesome to watch him discover the world around him. I forgot how much I love this stage – not too mobile – but so interactive and curious. I can’t get enough!
To help feed into his never-ending curiosity and constant need for stimulation, I like to use a wide array of baby-focused books, DVDs and CDs. From watching a DVD together in the morning, listening to tunes in the car or cuddling up to read a book before bed, I love exposing him to different images, sounds and words.
Typical of many second-born children, Gavin uses his big sister’s hand-me-down toys, books and DVDs. Each month I break out a new item and always enjoy rediscovering the fun I had using them with her (so does she!). But of course, it’s also fun to start my own traditions with Gavin, and thus jumped at the chance to review a copy of the new Baby Einstein Discovery Kit as a way for us to explore something new and exciting together.
The Baby Einstein Discovery Kit features a DVD, CD and book – all with the same overarching theme and goal to help babies connect things they see and hear in the world around them. We received the Baby Mozart Discovery Kit as part of the “Level 1 – Experience” line of products. Baby Einstein currently features six Discovery Kits across three levels, each kit featuring a DVD, music CD and picture book or Discovery Cards. A quick snippet from Baby Einstein:
The new Discovery Kits encourage parents to take what they and their little one have seen on screen, in the book or listened to on the CD and apply it to baby’s everyday life. They were created to grow with babies and are organized in a way that offers three distinct levels of discovery. In the Baby Mozart™ Discovery Kit, parent and child will discover the joy of classical music together and listen to Mozart’s popular works – including “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” – delightfully reorchestrated for little ears. They’ll look at real-life images and enchanting puppet shows bringing a symphony of sights and sounds together as they share new discoveries with Baby Mozart.
Perfect for little eyes, ears and hands!
Both Gavin and I really enjoy the Baby Mozart kit. The DVD features fun and quirky objects on screen to really grab his attention, with the CD and book complimenting the video with the same music and images. When watching the DVD, I act as “narrator”, describing all the animals and sounds flashing before our eyes. Gavin especially loves the accompanying book, the perfect size for his little hands to hold and help turn the pages! In addition to Baby Mozart, you can also enjoy such themes as Baby Beethoven, Baby Lullaby and Wild Animal Safari. The first six Discovery Kits are currently available for purchase and three additional Discovery Kits will be available in early 2011.
