What makes a great party? Just ask Party City!

Beyond good food and good friends, a good party is all about creativity.

I just returned from a weekend in Hilton Head, South Carolina, where Party City put on some of the most creative parties I’ve ever seen. We went to one amazing event after another, designed for kids of all ages and their parents. There was something for everyone.

Party City Blood Manor & Monster Ball

One of my favorites was the Party City Blood Manor & Monster Ball – a Halloween party where we all got to go in costume as our favorite character. I was the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. (Very sparkly!)

One of the things that really made the party a good one was the creativity. When we first arrived there was a graveyard next to the house and skeletons coming out of the ground. There was also a fog machine so when you first came up to the house it really set the scene. Now that’s creative!

When you first walked in there was awesome music and a disco ball. There were tons of kids and adults dancing. As the party continued, they started games for the smaller children. All of the kids got a plastic jack-o-lantern, which they used to go around the house and “trick-or-treat.” They got little toys and TONS of candy. While this was happening, most of the adults were in the other room talking and having a drink while the children were having fun.

Easy party decor solutions

Party City used table clothes as wall décor, which was an inexpensive way to give the room color. To dress up the silverware they used pretty napkins with huge black flowers on them and put them in giant vases so they could could double as a decoration.

Other easy solutions:

• If you’re throwing a party but maybe don’t want everyone going all over the place in your house, add a decorative barrier.
• Party City put a ton of little candles on the stairs so people wouldn’t go up stairs (though you may want to think twice before lighting them.)
• They also hung little lanterns on the other side of the house so the guests couldn’t get up the elevator.
• They had a little room that was too small for people to crowd in so they covered the whole room in little pink lights, which gave it a cool feel.

The Halloween party was definitely one of my favorite out of the six parties that I attended. Halloween is one of Party City’s biggest holidays and they really went all out!

Emilee is an eighth grader in Massachusetts. She is active on her local swim team, is a first chair violinist with her middle school orchestra, and enjoys spending time with her baby sister.
