A captivating love story pulls you through every ounce of emotion as you follow the main characters through their either triumphant or tragic journey. Will they find each other? End up together? Go separate ways?
In a three-act ballet, John Cranko beautifully transforms Alexander Pushkin’s famed Russian novel, Onegin, into a stunning visual story featuring Eugene Onegin and Tatiana’s ill-timed romance. Tatiana, falling at a young age for Onegin, writes a passionate love letter describing her feelings to which he furiously rejects, ripping the letter to shreds. Through incredibly poetic dance, Tatiana pours her soul into impressing Onegin and he simply cannot be won over.
Years later, Onegin finds himself at a ball and is stunned by an elegant woman. Quickly realizing it’s Tatiana; he then becomes the one fighting for her love. Since their previous meeting Tatiana has wed a respected general and prince and though tempted by what could have been, cherishes her marriage vows above all else.
This emotional story is the pinnacle of unrequited love. Accompanied by Tchaikovsky musical compositions and preformed spectacularly by the Boston Ballet Orchestra, the audience becomes enveloped in the show anxiously waiting for Tatiana and Onegin’s fate.
Performances by both Onegin’s character, Lasha Khozashvili, and Tatitana’s, Petra Conti, are brilliantly danced with skill and grace, while the Boston Ballet company supports the story in perfectly synced choreography and dreamy costumes.
The Boston Ballet continues to put on shows of splendor no matter what the production and Onegin certainly followed suit. Be sure to visit BostonBallet.com to get information on upcoming performances and tickets.
