From wiping up non-stop spills to drying dishes to cleaning off kitchen countertops, Moms know paper towels prove invaluable in the kitchen. Yet this year, the folks at Bounty kicked paper towel technology up a notch with Bounty DuraTowel. Designed with hygiene in mind, the DuraTowel offers Moms a “cleaner way to clean,” with a towel that features enhanced durability, as well as cleanliness that far surpasses the ever-present kitchen dish towel.
With 36 million Americans becoming sick with food-borne illnesses each year, cross-contamination continues to be a challenge for families. While it may be tempting to wipe up that raw egg splatter off the countertop with a dish towel and then fold it up and use it again later – that one simple act winds up as one of the easiest ways to redeposit germs throughout your kitchen.
Instead, the Bounty DuraTowel combines the strength of cloth dish towels with the convenience of the paper variety that allows a quicker, more thorough clean-up – particularly when wiping down surfaces after cooking with foods at high-risk for cross-contamination – ranging from fish to raw poultry to eggs.
Moreover, the durability of Bounty DuraTowels proves effective with a host of food preparation tasks. For example, at the International Housewares Show, Top Chef Stephanie Izard demonstrated the importance of wiping off the outside of vegetables such as red peppers before cooking. These new Bounty towels allow home chefs to rinse – and dry – raw vegetables and fruits so you can cook dinner, make fresh fruit smoothies, and pack lunches, all with peace of mind.
Yet, while I noted the effectiveness of the Bounty DuraTowels, I also wondered where it lives in the kitchen? With a price point of around $3.19 for two rolls, it seems a bit pricey for day-in and day-out use – particularly if families go through paper towels at the rate my family does. So, do you keep one roll on the countertop for everyday spills and another roll on hand for messes that need a more durable towel?
Like many new innovative products, the Bounty DuraTowel may be one item that Moms need to evaluate on their own and see how it fits into their family’s lifestyle and budget.
