As a child, I don’t think I could have been luckier than to have grown up in New England. Most of my vacations revolved around outdoor adventures in Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont. If we weren’t able to get away for a weekend, I would just beg my parents to pitch the tent in the backyard and that was my outdoor experience for the night. While New England is amazing (and I have a bit of a bias) the rest of the country has so much to offer as well. Just traveling a few states away can offer completely different scenery.

After the last snowstorm I decided to put a warm weather getaway on my calendar to convince myself that I could survive the rest of winter. With so many exciting possibilities to consider, I let my loyalty to JetBlue – and an existing credit from a previously cancelled trip – guide my selection process.

Every school year, I always look forward to spring break, not just for the week off of school, but because of the opportunity to travel to some exotic place and experience something new. However, I think the couple of Disney/Caribbean vacations I had with my family when I was in middle school may have clouded my expectations just a little bit. I always think, “This year will be the year that I finally do something new and exciting,” but given my limited college-student budget, nothing ever comes of my inner child’s high hopes for a wildly entertaining spring vacation.

I’m headed to Texas for the Super Bowl! No, that’s a lie. But I promise you can trust everything else I say in this article (probably). This past November I traveled to Dallas with my family for the Thanksgiving holiday. This was my first time traveling as the mom of two. I was very anxious about the whole experience, especially the dreaded “getting through security” adventure. I get antsy when going through security on my own, so you can only imagine the pressure I put on myself when trying to usher two small little travelers along!

Last week, my family and I took a vacation to California to road trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco along the Pacific Coast Highway. About a 500 mile trip, we decided to do the drive “backwards,” which meant we were on the inside of the narrow, curving road, rather than along the cliffs. Since we had a week, we took our time and picked a few scenic, small towns to stop along the way.

We spent the month of December hosting our family and friends for parties and the holidays. When we traveled for a birthday party this weekend, we looked for a simple and easy activity as well as one that would avoid the crowds at the larger family activities in the Monterey area. We enjoyed ourselves and learned some adventures can be found where you least expect them.

Before I became a mom, some of the reasons I looked forward to having kids were not the sleepless nights, the spit-up, and the constant diaper changes (though that was all lovely). I couldn’t wait to re-live my own childhood and do all kinds of fun stuff with my kids! And while my bucket list is still brimming, there’s one trip we can check off the list – SeaWorld, Discovery Cove, and Aquatica.

This New Years Eve I did the unthinkable. No, not stand in the middle of millions of New Yorkers while we cheered the effects of gravity on a shiny ball. Instead, I traveled. Here’s the catch: traveling in the dead of winter can be quite a pain. I’ve been delayed in airports more times than you count. The staff at Auntie Anne’s pretzels in Logan Airport knows me by name. So for those of you heading on vacation this winter, here are the top tips on how to stay sane in the airport during a delay:
