Buying a car seat to protect your most precious cargo feels like one of the most nerve-wracking and yes, time-consuming processes for a parent. Of course, we consider safety and security with every baby and child product purchase, but the car seat most of all.
When it came time for my husband and I to switch our daughter from her infant seat to a convertible one, we spent countless hours researching, talking to friends, and reading websites. It’s important to balance safety standards with features that will truly make a car seat go the extra mile for your family. As we pieced together our priorities, we kept coming back to the Diono Radian® RXT.
In terms of safety, having a full steel frame and aluminum reinforced sides really stood out to us, and reassured us that the seat could withstand impact in the event of an accident. Energy-absorbing materials including in the harness also met our safety ideals. It has also received the National Parenting Center Seal of Approval.
Beyond earning top scores for safety, the Diono Radian RXT includes other features that truly put it above the other car seat options for our family. We travel quite a bit, and though like most convertible car seats, the Radian is heavy, we appreciate the fact the FAA-certified seat can also be used on an airplane, and folds flat for travel (we will be purchasing the carry straps, which are sold separately). Having just taken a trip to Italy with my nine month old, I can’t say enough about getting a seat for your baby on the plane specifically for the car seat. It makes napping, feeding and playing in-flight much easier!
In talking with other parents, one of the most appreciated aspects of the Diono Radian RXT is that it will fit three across in most vehicles. We anticipate being in a position of having two kids in convertible car seats at some point, so the fact that the Radian RXT is able to accommodate this is pretty important. We also live in New Jersey, which just last year passed a law requiring children to sit rear-facing in the car until they reach two years old. The rear-facing tether capability of the Radian was an important feature for us to have for this very reason.
In choosing a convertible car seat, we wanted an option that would last us for the long-haul. As our daughter grows, she will be able to comfortably use the Radian up to booster seat age, so this will be a one-time only purchase. I am all about making a one-time, smart investment, and the Diono Radian RXT satisfies this need. In a very crowded space of car seat options, this one definitely stood out, and the safety and versatility has put our minds at ease!
