With new technology constantly changing and offering us up new possibilities, it takes a great deal to stand out among the applications clutter. However, the Hider2 app from MacPaw completely caught my attention at this year’s MacWorld show in San Francisco with its ability to both hide and encrypt files on your computer. I particularly worry as a constantly on-the-go CEO about keeping sensitive files I need on my MacAir laptop from being compromised should I lose my laptop or have it stolen. While I have password protection to my laptop’s desktop, I often forget to log out as I dash from one place to the next. I also worry about sensitive personal information such as credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, addresses and contact information all tucked away in reminder documents on my computer.

MacPaw Hiber2 guarantees that your private information remains secure by creating a virtual vault on your computer. Launch the password-protected Hider2 application, which remains hidden as a small icon at the top of your computer. Then drag in any documents, pictures, and even entire folders, and they all disappear from your desktop. This proves more than just password-protecting your documents, as the Hider2 app not only creates a vault with a password, but also encrypts every piece of information it contains.

I’ve yet to find a computer application that proves easier to navigate. Once you download the application off of the Mac App Store, Hider2 asks you to set a password for your vault. The vault then shows up as an icon on your toolbar. Simply open the vault, drag in your confidential documents, and you have safe and secure files that no one besides you can see or open.

Maybe the biggest unexpected perk of this app is its in-app note taking ability. You can paste into a note sensitive credit card or family social security numbers that you want to keep on your computer as reference but worry won’t remain safe. Simply click “Add Note” inside your Hider2 vault, write your note, and it becomes encrypted and protected with just one click. The Hider2 app also allows you to move that protected information onto an external hard drive. So if you’re still concerned about confidential information being on your computer even within the Hider2 vault, you can move that vault onto a portable external device.

The MacPaw Hiber 2 app offers an easy way to keep your important documents safe while cleaning up your desktop, too! Your credit card numbers, meeting notes, contact information, work documents, and even those horrific pictures of your teenage years can now be kept away from kids and spouses who tend to accidentally delete your important documents while “borrowing” your laptop. With one click, your important information becomes yours and yours alone.

The Hider2 app from MacPaw is available from the Mac App Store for $19.99 and downloads seamlessly onto all Apple systems. Learn more at MacPaw’s website to make sure your computer is safe for all of your needs.
