May has finally arrived after a particularly harsh winter. If you live in the Northeast like we do, you probably read that last sentence and thought the word “harsh” wasn’t harsh enough to describe just how bad this winter was.

But I digress.

Yes, we’re in the middle of spring, and in many ways spring has just sprung, but my family is already thinking about summer. I, for one, can’t wait for sundresses, amusement parks, sunglasses, and beach trips with my family and friends.

The recent warm weather inspired me to begin sprucing up my kids’ summer wardrobe. With a few hours to spare on Saturday afternoon, I gathered my children and headed to OshKosh B’Gosh. Walking into the store I immediately noticed the bright colors perfectly suited for summer clothing. Eager for warmer weather that warrants trips to the beach, we headed right for the patriotic-themed bathing suits. As many kids do, mine love to sport red, white, and blue attire — especially during the summer months — and our family enjoys attending Memorial Day and Fourth of July barbecues. We realized these prints really got us in the mood for hot dogs, beach parties, and fireworks.

In addition to swimwear, OshKosh B’gosh offers a variety of accessories to enhance our favorite summer beachwear. If you can’t tell, the sunglasses quickly became my son’s favorite, while my daughter leaned toward the festive beach hats. During the hot summer months, these hats become a must for protecting my daughter’s skin while also keeping her cool and helping the sun stay out of her eyes as she enjoys the warm summer sun.

From the moment we walked in the store, my daughter wanted everything. What I like most about OshKosh B’gosh stores is how kid-friendly they are – my daughter discovered she could “shop for herself.”  She walked through the store, picking up bathing suit after bathing suit and even discovered a pink and blue-striped t-shirt that she can toss on over her bathing suit when the weather turns a bit chilly.

Overall, our OshKosh B’gosh shopping trip proved a success. We discovered fabulous beach attire that’s not only fashionable but comfortable. Now onto beach preparation!

Five Beach Bag Must-Haves

1- Don’t forget the swimsuits!
We love all of the newest kids’ swimsuit styles that have arrived for the summer of 2015. Between ruffles, one-shoulder suits for girls, surf shorts, and our favorite patriotic swim trunks for the guys, it becomes hard to choose which suits to throw in the beach bag for the kids. Make sure everyone is covered and ready to enjoy all the sun has to offer.

Oshkosh Beach Bag - 22- Flip flops and water shoes
Every year, sandals become more colorful and comfortable for our kids’ constantly moving feet. Make sure to throw in a colorful pair of flip flops or water shoes to keep little feet protected from both surprises in the sand and the powerful rays of the sun!

3- Sunscreen is a must
A lot of us haven’t seen the sun in months, so our skin is extra susceptible to sun damage. Make sure to grab a high SPF for everyone in your family – parents too! – and keep arms, legs, and faces safe by reapplying throughout the day.

4- Sun safety has never been cuter
Sun safety is often the least of our children’s concerns at the beach. It can easy to forget that sometimes sunscreen doesn’t give our children enough coverage from the sun’s warm glow. With stylish reversible hats from OshKosh in your beach bag, your child will eagerly throw on a cool camouflage bucket hat, or sport a pink floppy hat that matches a colorful suit.

5- Beach snacks are the best
Some of our favorite beach memories revolve around those impromptu beach picnics. Cut up some watermelon, whip up a series of small sandwiches, and include lots of water to keep your children nourished and hydrated — giving them the energy to play until sundown. And don’t forget to toss in a few popsicles for dessert!
