Especially in the fall and winter months, my family suffers with annoyances associated to seasonal changes including dry skin, dry sinuses, and scratchy throats. We use a humidifier to help hydrate the air and prevent the dryness that can irritate and exacerbate these conditions, as well as to help ease symptoms associated with occasional colds and respiratory conditions.

Finding the perfect humidifier has proven a challenge – some models we used didn’t emit a sufficient level of moisture into the air, or bred noticeable mold and bacteria. Others sounded too loud, or proved difficult to clean. With cold and flu season nearly upon us, I found myself shopping for my next humidifier, and was elated to discover that one of my favorite brands – Dyson – developed a humidifier model new to the market this year.

Dyson has been my vacuuming go-to since I purchased (and grew to love) the DC65. Dyson designs its products meticulously, with optimal performance in mind, so I knew that Dyson’s new AM10 Humidifier was going to impress.

The Dyson humidifier uses ultrasonic technology to humidify the air.  A small piezoelectric transducer sits in the bottom of the water canal – vibrating at an extremely high (ultrasonic) frequency, up to 1.7 million times a second, it breaks-down the water down into tiny particles which are then drawn up through the loop amplifier and projected into the air. I easily adjusted the humidity to my family’s ideal level via remote control.

One of my favorite aspects of the Dyson AM10 is its Ultraviolet Cleanse technology. As I have experienced, humidifiers are susceptible to breeding mold and bacteria. With the Ultraviolet Cleanse technology, every drop of water is exposed to blue (UV) light, killing 99.9% of bacteria before hygienic mist and hydrated air is projected into the room. This fact comforted me, and I could rest assured, confident about the quality of air my family was breathing in. The AM10 is certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

Filling the water tank is incredibly easy. An ingenious feature is the fold-down handle that allows you to easily transport the tank from your faucet back to its place in your room, limiting potential spills and slips that result when filling, or having to awkwardly carry it with both arms!

I’ve always felt distracted by the noise level of other humidifiers, especially when trying to sleep through their gurgling and bubbling noises. This humidifier is the epitome of quiet – you can barely detect any water-related sounds.

No matter what the size of your room, this humidifier really helps to even out the air quality. Whole room humidification is projected throughout up to a 172 square foot room – efficiently and quietly. It provides night-long comfort and beyond, running continuously for up to 18 hours of use, and features a sleep timer if you want to shut the machine off at a certain time. Design and décor aficionados will appreciate the sleek look of the Dyson AM10 as compared to others.

The AM10 is available for $499.99. With its two-year warranty, and the peace of mind that this humidifier will kill bacteria – not breed it – we deemed this to be a fair price point and a solid investment in a quality home appliance that will deliver what it promises.
