When babies fall asleep easily and enjoy a restful sleep, everyone in the family benefits. Just ask any sleep-deprived mom whose little one has a hard time falling, and staying, asleep how true that rings. A good sleep proves integral to all of us for our health, development, and wellbeing.

A good night’s sleep doesn’t have to be a coveted dream. As the #1 baby skin care brand and a pioneer in the science of baby sleep, JOHNSON’S® understands the importance of sleep for happy, healthy baby development. Johnson’s knows that when baby sleeps better, mom sleeps better, too.

At a recent event held in NYC, Johnson’s shared the research behind the Johnson’s 3-Step Bedtime Routine, with a panel of experts on-hand to discuss science-backed ways to help babies from 7- to 36-months-old fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

Some highlights of the 3-step routine from the Johnson’s Baby site:

Step 1 – Bathtime is the perfect way to start your baby’s pre-bed routine. Check the temperature with your elbow and pour in a bath product like JOHNSON’S® baby BEDTIME® bath®. Gently put your baby into the bath, supporting his body in the water. Use your hand to gently splash water over your baby’s body, take your time washing your baby.

Step 2 – A soothing massage is a wonderful way to make your baby feel secure, loved and ready for sleep. Massage can help you recognize and respond to your baby’s body language and it’s a great way to make your little one feel safe and secure. Before you dress your baby for bed, apply a small amount of baby lotion like JOHNSON’S® baby BEDTIME® lotion to the palm of your hand and then softly massage it into your baby’s skin.

Step 3 – After giving your baby a warm bath and a relaxing massage, it’s time to send him off to sleep with a little quiet time together. Make sure you keep the atmosphere calm and cozy. You can help your baby wind down further by reading or singing softly. It’s best to avoid active play at this time, so your baby goes to bed sleepy but still awake. This will help him learn how to self-soothe and get back to sleep on his own if he wakes up during the night.

We’ve shared one of Johnson’s fact-filled infographics, below. Having helped mom with more than 1 BILLION baby bedtimes, and combining the wisdom of moms and dads with scientific innovation and discovery, it’s no wonder moms around the world trust the JOHNSON’S® brand to care for their babies.
