Before soaking up the hot rays of sun on the beautiful beach or exploring every corner of the enormous amusement park, you have to worry about getting there first! Traveling with your children can be a trying experience—especially when the batteries on their iPods or gaming devices run out (let the headaches begin). While some people, like myself, would rather watch flowers grow than wait at an airport with a group of kids, these notable airports make the wait a whole lot easier.
Boston Logan International has two play areas for your children. Located in Terminal C, the first play area consists an educational hands-on exhibit with a baggage claim slide, an airplane that calls for climbing, and soft floors that are tumble friendly. Away from all the older children’s havoc is also a separate play area for infants and toddlers.
The second play area is located in Terminal A. This playground also features hands-on exhibits with replicas of air traffic, control towers, and more climbing structures and slides.
Orlando International Airport has one of the coolest features I’ve heard of yet, a 3,000 gallon aquarium! In addition to the tank filled with tons of aquatic creatures, there are two space centers for the aspiring astronaut or the admiring stargazer to explore. Surprisingly, that’s not all MCO has to offer. The King of Kong Arcade is filled with pinball machines, racecar simulators, and other gaming machines. If your children should tire of the other exhibits or you run out of quarters, a visit to Memorial Park, just off of runway 18L, could leave a lasting impression as you can find a Boeing B-52D Stratofortress parked for your viewing.
The San Francisco International Airport features a play area that is filled with crawling equipment and a colorful plasma wall that is activated by sound. For a more calming and educational experience, you can visit the SFO Museum, which features cultural and historical exhibits. Underwater life is also displayed in three different aquariums. Educational tours that end with a small prize are another way you can pass the time at this airport.
A trip to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport could serve as a trip in itself. You might have trouble getting your children to leave the indoor playgrounds! The airport has three huge play areas all containing fun climbing structures, games, and comfortable areas for parents to relax in while keeping an eye on the children. The playgrounds are also complete with televisions that broadcast children’s programming. DFW is also home to Skylink, a free ride that movies throughout and above the airport.
The Nashville International Airport is truly unique as live musicians perform on six concert stages that are sprinkled throughout the airport. You can join in on the singing and dancing with your family as you wait for your flight! If your children aren’t fans of the music, BNA also has playgrounds with LEGOs, tunnels, slides, and climbing walls. BNA souvenir shops are a must visit for cute apparel, toys, and games.
So before your children start complaining of boredom, be sure to check out airport attractions you can visit during your wait!
