Oscar party snacks

The Oscars are coming up and that means another Sunday night that I have an excuse to throw a party. Of course, what would a party be without some awesome hors d’oeuvres to snack on while watching your favorite stars walk the red carpet?

Snacks

While the Super Bowl snackage was great a few Sundays ago, my stomach can’t stand another Sunday night of greasy dips and wings. For the Oscars, I want dishes that are classier to fit the event and a bit less heartburn inducing.

For fancier munchies, dip your regular pretzels half in dark chocolate and half in white chocolate to get the tuxedo effect (look out, George Clooney!) The same can be done with strawberries, and if you want to add extra glam, sprinkle on edible gold flakes for some sparkle.

Now, you want something salty but you’re looking for something different from the typical shrimp cocktail? Try Cilantro Lime Shrimp. The recipe is so simple, but yet it looks like you spent some time in the kitchen. (In reality, it takes 15 minutes max!)

Cilantro Lime Shrimp

From Gina’s Skinny Recipes

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 2 pounds shrimp, shelled and deveined
  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 lime
  • Salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Heat a large frying pan on medium-high heat.
  2. Add oil to the pan, then hot add shrimp. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. When the shrimp is cooked on one side, about 2 minutes, turn over and add garlic. Sauté another minute or two until shrimp is cooked, careful not to overcook.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Squeeze lime all over shrimp and toss with cilantro. Serve hot.

Drinks

To wash it all down with, if you have work in the morning and don’t feel like drinking alcohol, mix any flavor sherbet with ginger ale in a large punch bowl. Freeze some of the ginger ale in star shaped ice cube trays with berries to add some extra color and since its frozen ginger ale it won’t water the punch down when it melts.

Any of these quick snacks will add fun and a taste of the Oscars to your party this February 27th!
