5 stars

This whimsical book with lovely watercolor illustrations is narrated by the air, explaining its mysteries to a young child.

The air patiently and gently explains how it can sometimes to be visible such as in a soap bubble. It is quick to point out that it has no smell, but carries them such as from a campfire, and has makes no noise as what you hear instead are sound waves traveling through it. But the air assures that it can be felt when it moves, and you can feel the moisture it carries from rain, snow ice and fog. Windmills can harness its energy. It elevates itself from the breeze coming into a bedroom window to rivers of atmosphere and jet streams that circle the Earth. Ultimately the wind explains how it’s mixture of oxygen and nitrogen that sustains life on the planet and gets shared with everything alive.

A touching soft science intro filled with wonder.

Thanks to Nancy Paulsen Books and Penguin Random house for an advanced reader’s copy.
