I grew up with a beagle named Derek. An unusual name for a dog, unless you had a little brother that was a Boston Bruins hockey fan in the early 1970’s and wanted to name the new family puppy after Derek Sanderson. Like most beagles, Derek (my dog, that is) had a distinctive howl, more like a bark/howl, that sounded like “barooooo!”
