In praise of Donsuemor cookies

There exist few inherent joys in life. The type of moment that makes you stop and say to yourself “this is really what living is.” It’s almost as if the whole world slows down and you honestly appreciate each breath, each sensation accumulated by your body, and you swear you’ll never take a moment – large or small – for granted again. I felt that way during my first kiss, during the 2004 Red Sox World Series win, and the first time I tasted a Donsuemor cookie.

I don’t mean to sound dramatic or appear to be making these claims for the sake of a review – Donsuemor cookies are literally the greatest thing I have ever tasted. Every member of my digestive system thanked me profusely every time I took another bite.

I assumed these soft, exquisite madeleine cookies were created by aliens or some sort of baking deity – but upon further research I discovered they were made by Don and Susie Morris (DON-SUE-MOR, get it?) from a secret French recipe. Less cookie, and more like a soft cake that melts in your mouth and leaves an impression of unending deliciousness.

The Donsuemor madeleine cookies come in five decadent flavors: traditional, dipped, lemon zest, chocolate and dipped chocolate. These Madeleine cookies have a rich history in France and other countries around the globe, and when I am eating one I can only think that the French royalty were on to something when they demanded more cookies or the chefs would be beheaded (at least that’s how I would’ve done things.)

You can find Donsuemor cookies at local grocery stores – or skip the hassle and just order them straight from the website, then wait patiently by the door and try not to drool too much in anticipation.

Looking for an even more delightful snack? Donsuemor also makes French Almond Cakes and their version of cupcakes known as “Cute Cakes” (awww!) Follow Donsuemor on Facebook or Twitter or YouTube – or simply follow the delivery truck around America as I plan to do.

The motto on the Donsuemor website is “quality not quantity” – but in my case, after wolfing down an entire box of these heaven-sent treats – I had both.
