From packing lunches to storing dinner leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch, we Moms spend a great deal of time focusing on food storage. We want containers compact enough to not take up too much cupboard space, but also ones that prove roomy enough to hold what’s left from last night’s pasta-fest. We want them to look smart and stylish, yet love the practicality of being able to toss them in the microwave to heat food up, and into the dishwasher to clean them.
Increasingly, we also look to more serious issues such as the health of our family and the welfare of our planet when choosing the right container. We don’t want to use products containing BPA and when we look at the sheer amount of plastic we keep on hand in the kitchen, we can’t help contemplating how it will all wind up one day in a landfill.
Fortunately, Preserve Products, of Waltham, MA, spends a lot of time thinking about these issues, too. Founded in 1996, the company’s focus is to create visionary products from recycled goods. We took a look at two storage products – the Preserve 2 Go container and the Dopper water bottle to see if they can successfully marry convenience and compassion for the environment.
The first thing we noticed about the Preserve 2 Go container – in addition to the eye-catching Apple Green color – centered on how closely it resembled the typical to-go container you get on those days when making dinner feels impossible. It comes with built-in dividers for an entrée and two sides – making it spacious enough to accommodate whatever wasn’t eaten for dinner. It snaps shut securely, allowing for easy transport for an at-work lunch the next day, and can be used in the microwave and cleaned in the dishwasher.
In addition to storing food at home, we also noted how easy it would be to bring along Preserve 2 Go the next time the family dines at one of those restaurants where you know you will come home with leftovers. And, as the 2 Go container includes 50% recycled plastic and no BPA, you’ll be doing your part for the environment by saying “no thank you” to plastic or polystyrene foam containers offered by the restaurant.
The colors and style of the Dopper water bottles really appealed to us – as did the Dopper Foundation’s mission of donating 5% of sales to programs that promote clean water around the globe. Dishwasher safe and BPA-free, the bottle can be used at home or on the go – and the colorful top doubles as a drinking glass!
