With everything we Moms do in a given day, finding time for ourselves continues to prove a challenge. As I’ve gotten older and hands-on child-rearing duties have lessened, I’ve really tried to make time for me. From regular yoga practice to eating more healthy foods to regular nail appointments, I’ve realized the world won’t come to an end if I focus on myself for a bit.
Yet, it’s not always easy – particularly from a scheduling point of view. Grabbing a frozen entrée for lunch and popping it into the microwave takes so much less time then packing up fresh arugula and a making healthy salad dressing – and then remembering to actually bring it into the office. Moreover, while I truly love the look and duration of a shellac manicure, it winds up being a commitment to go back to the salon on a regular basis to get it removed and reapplied.
And sometimes, staying home and taking care of ourselves just works for us. I love attending classes at my yoga studio, but I don’t always want to roll up my mat and head out into a driving rainstorm for a session – and occasionally, despite my best efforts, I just can’t make it to class. But with so many yoga DVDs and apps available, I can turn my spare bedroom into the perfect studio – on my schedule and on my terms.
For me, salon hair removal services also fall into this category. I’ve had some good experiences with eyebrow waxing, and that process worked for me because it was discrete – and waxing can be tough at home. But I simply don’t have the time for more extensive, ongoing visits.
That’s why the Remington i-LIGHT Pro proved a welcome product. It removes body hair easily and conveniently – and you do it all yourself at home. Acknowledging my past experiences, I started small – around the annoying ankle area and the bikini line. After reviewing the instructions, I admit I felt a little nervous – it seemed tricky and complicated and I wondered if it would hurt. But I looked over the booklet again, took a deep breath, and got started.
And once I did, I found it easier than I expected. It took a few times to make sure I placed the hand piece down flat so the light could flash – signifying that it worked successfully – but I learned that it becomes easier if you just keep the button pressed as you move it about.
And that flash – it is bright, but once I got the hang of using the hand piece, I didn’t feel the need to keep looking at it. Seems a little obvious at this point, but I initially felt I needed to keep an eye on everything!
The booklet also recommends you move the hand piece around in a grid-like pattern, so you don’t go over the same area twice. Particularly for the smaller areas I tried, it proved really successful. Having a pattern to follow also makes it feel less haphazard and seems as if it goes faster.
So after using it twice – I discovered two bits of key news. One – it really didn’t hurt. If you follow the directions, it just sometimes a feels a little tingly when it flashes. However, it does get a little uncomfortable if you don’t shave right before (as the booklet recommends) or if you move it too close to existing stubble. When that happens, it feels like a little zap.
And two – it works! So far, I’ve done two treatments on my left side (both areas) and one treatment on the right side – and I’m seeing some results! The hair re-growth definitely seems to be slower on the side where I’ve done more than one treatment.
I definitely plan to keep using the Remington i-Light Pro – I’m really anxious to see even more progress. And I love that the results can last for up to six months. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
