From colds to sore throat viruses to the flu, late fall/early winter can prove a tough time to stay healthy. Amidst ever-changing weather, we Moms spend our days shuttling kids back and forth to activities, working, running errands, volunteering, and getting ready for the holidays. Throw a plane ride or two into the mix, and sure enough, the sneezing inevitably begins.

For me, I feel as if my immune system already headed south in anticipation of winter. I’m currently dealing with my third – yes, third – virus/sore throat/cold/sinus problem since late September. I’ve had my flu shot, eat well, get enough sleep, do yoga daily, and wash my hands incessantly. Yet, I can’t seem to stay well. The last time I had so many viruses in a short time, my then-15-month-old daughter had just entered daycare, and each morning dawned a new opportunity for germ exposure.

So imagine my delight when a package arrived from the ARM & HAMMER team, featuring every necessity when hunkering down with a stuffed nose and scratchy throat – a fluffy pillow, warm blanket, portable humidifier, tissues, a mug for tea, and Simply Saline Nasal Relief.

ARM & HAMMER Simply Saline
When the package arrived, my first sinus/sore throat issue had just abated, so I mistakenly thought it had all arrived too late. Little did I know.

But, two weeks later, I felt the telltale tickle in the back of my throat and broke open the Simply Saline. Typically, when I have a stuffy nose, I avoid solutions such as nasal sprays and neti pots and instead, reach for pseudoephedrine. But, I blew through my supply during my previous virus and found myself in desperate straits.

Since I hadn’t used this type of product before, I turned to the ARM & HAMMER website for some guidance. I loved that it featured a quick video that answered my questions on how best to use the spray. Tissue in hand, I sprayed Simply Saline in each nostril while leaning over my bathroom sink. You can also use it in the shower. And you do need a sink, shower, or handful of tissues – because your nose will run immediately afterwards. Then, you simply blow your nose and amazingly, the stuffiness is gone!

Simply Saline
As my virus lingered, the Simply Saline gained a permanent perch on my bathroom counter. Unlike other nasal sprays that can be used only for three days, you can use Simply Saline as needed. And as it contains no drugs – just water and salt – you can feel comfortable in taking a more natural approach to health. I admit, though, I had a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that I could use Simply Saline as much as I needed – I kept re-checking the instructions on the bottle to make sure!

As Virus #2 healed, I traveled to South Carolina for Thanksgiving and found myself in one of those stuffy, dry-air hotel rooms. I hadn’t thought to pack Simply Saline, so I ran out and bought a bottle once we arrived to keep my nasal passages moisturized while sleeping and during the time we spent in the hotel. Finally, relief!

For me, Simply Saline totally works. I can’t believe I got through a virus without pseudoephedrine – definitely a first! It really helped relieve my stuffed nose throughout Virus #2 and into, unfortunately, Cold #3. This latest one features lots of sneezing, plus an itchy nose, so I just may head out and buy Simply Saline Allergy & Sinus Relief!
