Traveling during the summer on a college student budget can be a near impossible task. That is until I was introduced to Spectacle Island. The name alone intrigued me! Spectacle Island is an Island in the Boston Harbor part of the Harbor Island National Recreation areas. During the summer, it has ferries going round the clock to and from the island.

A group of friends and I decided last week that it would be the perfect beach day and decided to head over. Spectacle Island is about 15 minutes from downtown Boston and was the perfect day trip for hiking swimming, and overall exploring.

After buying $14 round trip ferry tickets, we never spend another dime the rest of the day. Spectacle Island is home to tons of free events happening during the summer (you can find the list of events here) like free island yoga, a make a kite day, ranger guided tours, fishing clinic, and jazz music nights plus much more all-free events.

The island offers a lot for a very cheap price making it perfect for any day trip with the family and friends. Plus, the view from the top of the North Summit is breath taking and you can see the entire Boston skyline on a clear day!

Visiting Spectacle Island is a must-do Boston area summer day trip. See you there!
