The truth about conference hopping

But for a minute, it does. Remember that hierarchy I talked about before?  It exists in this form. I’ve had some AWESOME opportunities in the last year or so and the future looks really bright for me in the blogosphere.  By my own admission, I hold myself to a higher standard than I did when I started four-ish years ago. But I don’t forget how I started and how important it was, and still is, for me to read and meet my fellow bloggers and have actual conversations with others about their blogs and their goals.

And by that I don’t mean the same six people over and over again. I mean actually immersing myself into the sea of bloggers and chatting with people who are considered Internet rock stars and those who are just starting out.

So I try to remember this when new bloggers, bloggers with less traffic, fewer invites, and a slower inbox approach me to chat. I was trying to remember my own successes while lunching with a fellow blogger last week and I heard myself say, “I wonder how many private events I’m NOT going to be invited to this year,” only half-jokingly.

I’ll need to remember this every time I attend an event where there are bloggers I’ve met a few times who may or may not remember my name. But most of all, I’ll try to remember what I learned recently at a conference where I was only half present – you get out of a blogging conference what you put in.

And maybe I’ll come over and introduce myself to you.
