Looking at the pile of ties and sports memorabilia in the back closet, you may realize as I have that Father’s Day gifts present quite the challenge. Sure, a nice engraved ballpoint pen fills the gift requirement, but its future of collecting dust just does not seem practical. If your Dad is anything like mine, getting outside and running around remains on the top of his to-do list. Pens, ties, and posters simply don’t fit his lifestyle.
I remember playing catch with my Dad when I was younger, shooting hoops until the sun went down, and kicking a soccer ball at the net as he pretended to guard against its entrance with all his might. He always wore the same worn-out sneakers, plain t-shirt, and navy blue Boston Red Sox hat with worn edges. As I sat back and thought about the memories, I suddenly knew exactly what to get him this year.
Outfitting the active Dad may sound simple, but the vast amount of options and features of a simple pair of sneakers astound me. The New Balance 890 sneaker immediately caught my eye. As I held the shoe, its lightweight feel started to win me over. The incredible lightness from the REVlite foam midsole, paired with neutral cushioning and support, makes this shoe wonderful for active Dads who no longer play for ranked teams, yet still seek a high quality and stylish sneaker.
After New Balance made my sneaker hunt simple, I looked at a wide variety of athletic apparel choices. With the summer heat on its way, the Cool As Ice Short Sleeve Crew sounded like music to my gift giving ears. Featuring IceFil fabric and a relaxed fit, I could picture my Dad running outside and loving his new active wardrobe.
With the gifts wrapped, I can’t wait until the warm weather hits, Father’s Day arrives, and I can play catch again with my dad in his New Balance gear just like we did years ago. Batter Up!
