Disclosure: We received an invite to attend the No Kid Hungry – Share Our Strength dinner, however all opinions here are our own.

While there exist many events that support non-profit organizations near and dear to my heart – I had never been to a 12-course dinner in my life and wasn’t sure what to expect or how the process would run at OverKill 2015. Let’s just say the experience was nothing short of amazing!

Overkill2The event, now in its third year, was created to help raise funds for Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry. This unique dining experience – a foodie’s dream – supports a cause that works to ensure an end to childhood hunger. A shocking 1 in 5 kids in America will endure hunger and lack of food and nutrients in their growing bodies.

Executive Pastry Chef, Brian Mercury, of Harvest, conceived the idea for the event and continues to host a dining experience for a great cause where all the proceeds benefited Share Our Strength Boston’s No Kid Hungry Campaign.

To support the initiative, Brian enlisted other culinary masterminds from the city of Boston and surrounding towns to serve up masterpiece dishes to impress. He enlisted fellow Himmel Hospitality Group restaurant Post 390 and the following 10 restaurants: Puritan & Co., Alden & Harlow, West Bridge, Spoke Wine Bar, Tavern Road, 80 Thoreau, Townsman, Union Square Donuts, and Café Art Science. There were 6 teams per restaurant that worked on each of the courses.

Overkill3I love the idea of chefs coming together to support a cause that relates to something they are passionate about: food. Not to mention the food proved both creative and delicious. When people come together to share their strengths and talents to raise both funds and awareness for this non-profit, the outcome simply amazes because there truly exists strength in numbers.

Mark your calendar for Fall 2016 for an event you don’t want to miss! Visit the site www.NoKidHungry.org to learn how you can help both nationally and regionally as well as check for upcoming events. And in the spirit of the upcoming holiday season, why not donate some non-perishable food items to your local food bank, to help a family in need.
