Disclosure: We received the Braun Silk-epil 9-579 to facilitate this review. All opinions are our own.
As the weather grows cooler, I get a bit lazier when it comes to shaving! And when I do, I get caught wearing a skirt when I realize my oversight. The need to shave just comes around too quickly after the last time, and at this point in the year, I no longer feel motivated to stay on top of it.
Fortunately for those of us who are on a time crunch and who can forget to take care of ourselves, Braun’s Silk-epil 9-579 offers us great results without having to invest too much time! Epilating removes the entire hair at the root, allowing our skin to stay smooth for up to four weeks.
I had never tried an epilator until receiving the Braun Silk-epil 9-579, so wasn’t sure what to expect.
The Braun Silk-epil 9-579 comes with an accessory that allows you to use the device as an exfoliator, and the instructions recommend that you exfoliate your skin 1-2 days before epilating for the first time. The exfoliator itself worked great at smoothing out dry skin and prepping my skin for the epilation process.
This device allows you to epilate in two different speeds. For those of us who haven’t epilated much before, Braun recommends the first setting to get used to the device.
When I first tried the epilation, I felt a little sting, which my skin got used to quite quickly. Hair was pulled out fast and seamlessly. The way that the epilator pulls out the hair felt similar to waxing, but this device can secure hair that is four times shorter than waxing, meaning I no longer have to wait until the hair is long in order to remove it. For sensitive skin or more sensitive areas, there is a skin cap to put on the epilator for more comfort while epilating.
One of my favorite features of the device proved the light, as it allowed me to see unwanted hair more clearly. Not only does the epilator save me time, but it also keeps my skin less irritated because I am shaving less – so fewer bumps! As I continue to use the epilator I will likely try it on the second speed for faster results.
The Braun Silk-epil 9-579 retails for $140 and can be purchased on Amazon.com, Walmart.com and select Bed Bath & Beyond stores.
