Obsessed With an iPhone App: Drop7

A few months ago, when my Blackberry decided to show me nothing but the spinning hourglass, I drove straight to the AT&T store to replace it. Immediately. I could not imagine a day without on-the-go access to a phone or email. Turns out my timing was lousy as they did not have a single Blackberry in stock.

A reluctant transition from Blackberry to iPhone

I’d been determined to not jump on the Apple bandwagon (and associate myself with those crazy people who wait hours outside the Apple store to buy overpriced gadgets). Reluctantly, I wound up with an iPhone 3G. The salesperson didn’t bother to try to upsell me to the 4G having explained that I only needed phone and email, and, yes, it might be fun if I could surf the web more readily that my sluggish Blackberry allowed. He was disappointed to wind up with a customer who wasn’t as excited about the (new, at the time) 4G as he was. The 3G at $49 fit my needs. The 4G at $199 was more features (and money) than I really wanted (to part with).

Wow, this thing is fun

I missed the tactile sensation of pushing buttons like on my Blackberry, but once I figured out how to type (and trust the auto-correction) and perfect the “slide” and “stretch” finger motions for the touchscreen I started to have fun with my iPhone. The sensation of “flipping” through photos was cool. Quicker access to websites was more helpful than I thought. Email was easier to read. Phone numbers and contacts were easier to organize.

Then I discovered Drop7.

Blame the boss

Drop 7Stacy, CEO of Mom Central and long-time iPhone enthusiast, simply said: “You MUST download this game.”

While I was falling in love with my iPhone, I did not intend on creating additional, new relationships with a bunch of apps that would overtake every remaining scrap of free time that I felt should be solely focused on the non-technology world. Human interaction, fresh air, nature-filled vistas were the things that I would seek.

I compromised: Drop7 is the only game app that I have taken up with. I love its company. Hours pass and it still feels new and exciting. We’re so compatible.

What is Drop7?

It’s a numbers/logic/Connect 4/Sudoku game rolled into a Tetris-like package.

I particularly liked this Nick Seeber said in his blog post about the game: Analysis of the iPhone game Drop7 with tips on advanced strategy. Give it a read and see if you agree.

There’s so much more I could say, but writing this post is cutting into my Drop7 time and I really need to best my Hardcore Level 25 400,000+ point score.
