Pillsbury invited bloggers for a special pizza making party and were given gift bags. The views expressed here are entirely our own.
We’ve all seen that adorable, lovingly pudgy Pillsbury Doughboy, and have come to cherish the buttery taste of his most infamous, flaky crescent rolls. But, that’s not all the Doughboy has ready to cook up. Equally as delicious, Pillsbury’s new line of Pizza Crusts boast a crispy, golden base, perfect for customized meals at home.
Whether you’ve got a picky eater who’ll only devour plain, or one who won’t touch a green vegetable, customizing pizza proves a perfect way to incorporate all taste buds at dinnertime.
Pillsbury Pizza Crusts come in both classic and thin crust, as well as plain and whole-wheat flavors. A hands-on way to incorporate kids in the kitchen—these pizza crusts are ready to unravel and topping is a cinch. A sure-fire way to please the whole family at dinnertime, Pillsbury Pizza Crusts boast gourmet flavor at a fraction of the prep and cook time.
Special Blogger Event!
To help spread awareness for these Pizza Crusts, Pillsbury recently held a special event in the Boston area for local Mom Bloggers to learn more in a very fun and social setting. I was lucky enough to be invited to this event on behalf of Mom Central, and was able to bring my five-year-old daughter Brooke, as one of the goals of Pillsbury is to help encourage children be part of the dinner preparation experience by helping make their own pizza. What better way then to invite kids and their Moms to make pizza together? Overall, we had a great time at the event, as anything creative and hands-on messy is a big win in our book! Here are the highlights:
Great location. Pillsbury rented out the Make Meaning store at Legacy Place in Dedham, Massachusetts, a really nice shopping area, which is a huge “do it yourself” space for kids to paint their own pottery, make their own jewelry/soap/candles, decorate their own cakes, etc. It was very smart for Pillsbury to rent out a space already kid-friendly and totally in line with their “hands-on creativity” approach with making pizza. The staff at Make Meaning were all onsite and fantastic, so great with the kids and incredibly upbeat and patient
Fun experience for the kids. As you can see from some of the featured pictures of Brooke, she got to make her own pizza (which tasted great I have to admit!), as well as decorate her own apron and chef’s hat. And of course, getting to meet the Pillsbury Doughboy was a huge plus! They also had free tattoos and even let the kids paint their own pizza plate at the end, great stuff that kept Brooke incredibly engaged the whole time!
Recipe cards and a coupon for free dough. As a complete failure in the kitchen, I appreciated the take-away recipe cards and coupon for free dough they gave us as we left (along with a few other cute things in our goody bag like an oven mitt, small cutting board and pizza cutter). Definitely items we’ll actually use again!
Ingredients:
Directions:
Step 1: Heat oven to 400 degrees. Grease large dark or nonstick cookie sheet with shortening or cooking spray; set aside.
Step 2: In 10-inch nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot. Add tomatoes, ½ teaspoon roasted garlic and the salt. Reduce heat to medium; cook 10 to 15 minutes or until tomatoes are thickened, stirring frequently. Set aside; cool slightly.
Step 3: Unroll dough on cookie sheet. Press out dough to 15×10-inch rectangle. In a small bowl, mix butter and 1 tablespoon roasted garlic. Spread over dough. Bake 7 minutes; remove from oven.
Step 4: Evenly distribute tomato mixture over partially baked crust. Top with mozzarella cheese.
Step 5: Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown. Sprinkle basil strips over pizza before serving.
