Not surprisingly Google is the most popular search engine – seeing several million searches a day. Although I doubt Google’s future is anything but bright, Microsoft’s self-described “decision engine,” Bing, has been making strides to make its mark within the industry.
Bing and Facebook create a partnership
Bing and Facebook have recently announced a new partnership, which allows Bing to utilize public data found on Facebook. The goal is to create more personalized search results.
When you search for a name (person, product or company) in Bing, a Facebook profile or fan page will appear next to the result. Clever huh? But that is not all – you will also be able to see how many (and the picture) of your friends who “liked” a specific search term result.
Also, when searching for a person (I know you all have done it before!) Bing will provide results that show the best match based on your Facebook friends and mutual friends.
Facebook has preemptively addressed Facebook users security concerns by making it clear that they will only supply Bing public data. In turn, Bing will not supply Facebook with any information about your searching habits.
If you don’t want your information to show up in others’ searches, make sure you alter your security setting on Facebook.
