* Mom Central received a SIMON SWIPE game in order to facilitate this review. All of the thoughts expressed are our own.
Some of my fondest memories come from family game night – throwing Monopoly pieces, accusing my brother of cheating in Scrabble, laughing at Catch Phrase – something about games unites the family, no matter what age. Perhaps one of the most challenging and frustratingly fun games that we all grew up with is SIMON, the memory game of a simple four colors that entranced us for hours.
Now, we can throw the frustrating SIMON back into our game night rotation. Hasbro offers the nostalgia of the classic game with a new twist, offering SIMON SWIPE. This modern take on the classic recall game is based on a smooth swipe action (not so different from the motion to unlock your iPhone!) With a sleek new design, we battle a SIMON that is high-tech and modern but still has the same four colors and the same challenge: remembering whether or not to hit the green or the red button next.
SIMON SWIPE caters to the tech-savvy kid who loves a challenge. Offering four different types of play including Classic, Party, Levels, and Extreme, the game proves rapid and endless. This SIMON requires more than just a tap, alternating between tapping and swiping each band of color, adding a level of difficulty that our quick-minded kids prove ready to tackle.
SIMON SWIPE’s lightweight and mobile design makes it perfect for long car rides and days at the beach. And with the “Party” play mode, the SIMON SWIPE passes between each player, making this a game that includes the entire family and adds a fun competitive edge!
Parents who know the original SIMON also know the terrifying and loud sounds associated with the game. Hasbro, one step ahead of our complaints of repetitive alarms, has added a very necessary volume button, placed conveniently next to the power button, so when time for dinner, the game becomes silent and completely shuts off.
The SIMON SWIPE is available at your nearest Target, Toys R US, and wherever toys are sold, for $19.99. Find out more information here from Hasbro.
