So many studies tout the benefits of reading to your child. Early exposure to reading helps later on in school and even in test taking. Beyond these benefits, the bonding time between parent and child that reading affords proves so special. I love seeing my daughter become attached to certain books, and my heart skips a beat when she requests a book before bedtime. Nothing soothes the soul like curling up in a chair and listening to her mimic the words that I read from the page. But when I need to travel for work, I don’t get to participate in this special family moment.

Enter StoryTime.

StoryTime, an innovative platform revolutionizing the reading experience, allows parent and child to read together anywhere, anytime. Utilizing technology that takes a rather old-school but cherished family routine, and adjusting it to meet the demands and needs of today’s world, this app makes today’s typical life scenarios seamlessly blend into reading time. Truthfully, I can’t think of many families who do not deal with travel for work, families living across country, co-parents in different places, etc., so addressing this gap proves so critical to maintain loving family connections.

The READwithME feature on StoryTime sets users up with a live video chat, so parents can see, hear and interact with their child while reading a book, no matter the distance. Users are also synched together so when the page is turned on one device, it automatically turns on the other. I love knowing that work travel does not have to be prohibitive from feeling connected to our family bedtime routine. My daughter doesn’t miss out on sharing her favorite story with Mom, and my inevitable mom-guilt definitely fades away.

I also love that we can use StoryTime to incorporate other family members into our time, who do not live with us. If it’s been a while since my daughter has seen her grandparents, we can all read a book together, and instantly feel bonded.

Users get access to thousands of books and unlimited reading, for a nominal monthly fee. Focused on variety, the robust library ensures that we have plenty of reading material to choose from. Content has been carefully chosen to best appeal to children ages 0-12. Currently, StoryTime is available for iOS users only, but feasibility will be expanding shortly.

It’s so refreshing to know there are tools out there to counteract the craziness and complicated situations of life, without sacrificing family. Reading is a simple moment to be shared with a child, and it’s the small moments in life that should not be taken for granted. StoryTime understands this, so I really love that the platform is putting such a value on reading and overall family bonding.
