For a very, very long time, I relied on a simple cell phone to make phone calls. No web connectivity, no camera, no apps, no cool cases/covers designed by famous artists, this relic was a brick with a keypad on it. It had rudimentary text messaging and wonky voicemail services, neither of which I used often.
I used that phone for years assuming an upgrade would only end in heartbreak and frustration, given how technologically advanced the newer phones seemed to be. To say I was a luddite would be an understatement- I didn’t think I could physically or emotionally handle the switch from “brick” to “smartphone,” and my brick worked just fine, thank you very much.
But at some point last year, my circa-2005 cell phone finally refused to power on, forcing me to upgrade. I took a big step; I drove straight to the Apple store and bought myself an iPhone. Goodbye brick – hello modern convenience. I love my iPhone. I rely on it for just about everything – it’s my iPod, digital camera, GPS and mini-Kindle (Shakespeare App!) all rolled into one. I can’t believe I ever thought the brick was good enough.
Apple hosted the “Let’s Talk iPhone!” event earlier this week in California to announce the new iPhone 4S. I can’t wait for the upgrade! My current version (the iPhone 3G) acts like a ticking time bomb, threatening to seize up at any moment. It’s no surprise I’m especially excited for the 4S’ faster chip, improved battery and 8-megapixel camera.
According Half Peeled Apple, who attended the Let’s Talk iPhone! event:
“…the new iPhone is called the ‘iPhone 4S’ and looks the same as the iPhone 4, but it totally different on the inside. It has an A5 chip and dual core graphics up to 7x faster then the iPhone 4. The battery is improved…. The wireless system has also been updated to get better signal. The iPhone 4S also has an 8-megapixel camera with faster capture, better color accuracy, more sharpness, f/2.8 aperture, face detection, better white balance, and more. The iPhone 4S pricing is as follows, $199 for 16 GB, $299 for 32 GB, $399 for 64 GB. Apple has also added an 8 GB iPhone 4 starting at just $99.
Sigh, I’m in love with it already. I can’t wait to upgrade once it’s launched on October 14th.
Do you plan to purchase the new iPhone 4S when it’s released later this month?
