Poema Cava offers sparkling refreshment at an excellent price

A crisp sparkling wine can elevate everything from a meal with friends to a celebration, and we’ve discovered a new brand that should inhabit a permanent spot in your wine refrigerator – Poema Cava.

I recently brought Poema Cava Brut to a holiday potluck celebration I attended with friends. Having a sparkling wine option was a great way to toast the holiday season and it paired well with the savory tapas that were served. The taste was fresh and clean, and elicited some light citrus and apple aromas. I particularly loved the pairing of the Poema Cava with fennel, jalapeno and pecorino cheese whole wheat crostinis as the light citrus flavors mingled perfectly with the spice of the pepper.

Another way to incorporate cava into your social dining experiences is to mix it with orange juice for a unique twist on mimosas. I tried this, and felt the drink overall was lighter and more refreshing than with traditional champagne!

Lastly, consider incorporating cava into your New Year’s Eve celebration! There is a Spanish tradition with “The Twelve Grapes” which consists of eating a grape with each strike of the bell at midnight on New Year’s Eve, a tradition which is intended to leave to prosperity. Toasting the New Year with 12 grapes and a glass of cava would be an excellent way to ring in 2014!
