As someone who lives with celiac disease* I sometimes find attending meals at a friend or family members home to be a tricky situation. Though a dish may be made with “gluten free” ingredients, a casual dunk of bread into a dip at the table or the mixing of utensils while cooking in the kitchen can cause cross-contamination and an onslaught of symptoms.
So instead, I often choose to cook gluten-free recipes at home and bring dishes to a family meal. I have been receiving Simply Gluten Free Magazine for the past few months and the Holiday Issue arrived just in time and chock full of delicious side dish recipes to accompany my brother-in-law’s famed fried turkey for our family Thanksgiving Dinner.
In addition to the mashed potatoes and squash, I whipped up a pot of the Cranberry Citrus Sauce, a “perfect balance between sweet and tart.” Incredibly simple to make, this one-pot condiment brightened the entire meal and received rave reviews from friends and family.
This one issue offers amazing recipes from appetizers to dessert, “cheat sheets” for simple substitutions while baking or cooking, as well as reviews for new gluten-free products and cookbooks. Health articles ranged from helpful tips for the newly diagnosed (“Glutenized? What to Do and How to Recover”) to recipe suggestions for those living with multiple food restrictions and allergies.
