Let’s face it – we all get busy! Fall is here, which means back to school. The holidays arriving faster than we know it. And our weekends just fill up with plans. We can’t use this busy season as an excuse to neglect ourselves. Many women don’t think to treat themselves to services like tending their eyebrows or getting a facial because they “don’t have the time.”
We learned from our visit at Wink Brow Bar in New York City that you don’t need a lot of time to receive treatments that have long-lasting benefits – and save you time in the long run by leaving our care in the hands of highly-skilled and knowledgeable professionals! Mom Central’s Kelly Palmisano and Lorianne Lacey experienced a few hours of restorative beauty after work. Not only did they have a lot of fun, but their treatments really paid off as they felt their brows and skin have never looked or felt better!
Whether you pluck them at home, or get them treated at a salon, grooming your eyebrows is one of the steps within your beauty routine that’s necessary, but not the most glamorous. Often times stopping to get your eyebrows waxed is fit in between our other errands. One rarely gives it a thought that it can actually be an enjoyable experience. Wink Brow Bar in New York City completely changed this for us.
The biggest difference is in the organic thread they use. We were told that the salon owner Umbreen Sheikh purchases the thread abroad (her family also owns Wink Brow Bars in London, Pakistan, and Dubai) and the natural cotton fibers help alleviate any pain, while allowing for precise threading. Umbreen herself is a mom of two, and wants her clients to understand that beauty can be attainable even with our busy schedules. It may seem a bit daunting as the aesthetician works the thread over your brows so quickly, it’s hard to believe that there is any precision involved. But the results will alleviate all sense of doubt.
If you prefer a wax, Wink does offer an option for you – an organic wax that uses chocolate! Sounds decadent, no? They also provide tinting services for both eyebrows and eyelashes to perfectly finish your look, along with professional makeup services.
Next up were our facials, which Wink Brow Bar does in their downstairs area. The room is small, and there’s only one facialist, but it’s completely worth it. Kelly and Lorianne have gotten facials at many spas, and though pampering is a bonus, at the end of the day, you want a facial to be effective! If you hear that you have dry skin, you want to leave incredibly moisturized. If a facialist points out uneven skin tone, you want to feel like you took a great first step in combatting that, and now have a new skin regime to prevent future damage. Too often, a facial will miss the mark, and hope that a brief shoulder massage at the end will leave you too blissed to care. But Amer Bukhari, our aesthetician, really knows the ins and outs of skincare, and approaches facials from a very analytical perspective, while still putting you at ease. He wants the facials to work and wants his clients to see results.
He talked us through the entire process, and provided us with helpful hints to continue to take care of our skin. One thing Amer pointed out is that your skin type is what you are born with, and cannot be changed, but your skin condition is what we do to it, and in many cases, that can be reversed or improved. When we compared notes after our treatments, we realized we both received very different facials, which makes sense since our skin is different. However, this isn’t always the case when you visit other spas and order a treatment off a menu. It was great to know that each treatment was very customized.
Amer also recommended products that we should continue to use between appointments. To help add key oils into her skin, Lorianne is now armed with the Surmer Rich Restoring Cream and I received the Egostyle Hyaluronic Filler to add moisture to my skin without the oil. These products, and all the products used during facials at Wink Brow Bar, are from Isabelle Lancray. Wink Brow Bar carries this Paris-based line exclusively in the US. Kelly personally feels that the Hyaluronic Filler is just what I needed to work with my combination skin, and Amer was the first facialist to understand my skin in this way and make such a recommendation.
