BonneO-2For so many kids, the summer proves to be a series of non-stop activities and adventures – all carried out under bright sunshine, long days, and warm temperatures. Between summer baseball leagues, day camps, soccer clinics, nature explorations, and community volunteer programs, kids today spend the bulk of their days outside and on-the-move during the summer months.

So what happens when they finish for the day?

More often than not, our exhausted, hot, and thirsty kids either pile into the car or jump off the camp bus looking for something cold and refreshing and sweet to drink. And as kids typically do, they gravitate toward the sugary, sticky, syrupy end of sweetness, and we parents – worn out after our own long day at work – usually give in. Which is why our kids show up night after night at the kitchen table – bloated and bouncing off the walls – with utterly no appetite for dinner.

Now – just in time for the hottest days of summer – a Canadian start-up company offers up a solution with the Bonne O Home Carbonation System. In French bonne eau means “good water” and inventor Darren Hatherell and his wife designed a home carbonation system that provides parents with a “good” alternative to the typical high-sugar, high-calorie late-afternoon thirst quenchers that kids seek out.

Basil_Orange_Make_grandeIn designing Bonne O, Hatherell and his team created a new kind of system – where virtually anything can be carbonated inside the sealed bottle. Instead of a separate CO2 tank to stream the gas into the cold water, the new Bonne O system uses a carbonator. Liquid moves from the Bonne O sealed bottle to the separate chamber containing the carbonator. The carbonator reacts with liquid to create the CO2, which is then pumped back to your beverage. The pressure from the CO2 building in the sealed bottle naturally infuses the fruits, foods, or flavors you’ve placed inside the bottle, resulting in a totally new type of refreshing drink.

BCMT_3_grandeWith the sleek Bonne O system located on the kitchen countertop, instead of heading for a drive-thru for a sugary concoction post-activity, families can head home and create their own sparkling refreshment. From mangos and raspberries to strawberries and kiwis, Bonne O uses fresh fruits to infuse a naturally sweet and refreshing twist on sparkling beverages. Forget pleas for traditional sodas – kids can now enjoy Strawberry-Infused Sparkling Lemonade or Orange Lemon Sparklers at the end of a long, hot day.

To kick up the flavor even more, Bonne O also provides flavor packs that can be used with the system. From lemon to ginger to root beer to pomegranate, Bonne O created natural flavors with none of the additives – such as preservatives or artificial colors, sweeteners, or flavors – that parents avoid adding to our kids’ diet. Kids will love mixing and matching with the flavors and fresh fruits to create such sparkling beverages as a Shirley Temple or a Berry-Infused Pomegranate Fizz.

Bonne O can also incorporate kids’ favorite fruit juice for added pizzazz – and Moms will love how the system cuts down on sugar and calories when the juice becomes diluted with sparkling water. Toss in some fresh melons or apples or blueberries, and a glass of juice becomes a sparkling treat.

Best of all, the Bonne O system proves a blast to use! Kids will love tossing their favorite fruits into the bottle and experiencing the flavor combinations that result. And watching the system extract flavors from the added ingredients and then swirl through the carbonation process – especially with the addition of fruit juices – will appeal to kids’ natural curiosity and sense of wonder.
